I watched the same press conference as Lawrence O’Donnell did last night. I do not know what all the rest of the people on the “news” programs watched. Im not sure what the others were watching.
The Dems have had 4 years to consider all of these factors. I suggested last year they look for other candidates (yes, Bernie is electable and that's exactly what the Dems and Reps are afraid of) and I was called a trumper. Really? I couldn't be less if I tried harder at it.
At this point in the game, it's too late. Honestly, I think he did fine at the press conference. By the way, the reporter who called out Biden for a mistake also called George Clooney are legislator. And, the reporter wasn't "old". And George has never run for office. If he has, he didn't make the national news about it.
Project 2025 is to serious not to take seriously. I think the Dems need to suck it up and support him.

Actually Bernie tried twice to get the nomination — and he is also a year older than Biden — but he never got nearly enough votes. Biden did far better than Bernie in the primaries. This is not a criticism of him but just stating a fact. I don’t think this country is ready for someone as liberal as Bernie is yet although that may change as the younger generations take over. They need to take a page out of the rightwing Republicans’ playbook and make a long term plan to “shift the Overton Window” to the left.
Well, he was pushed out actually and Hillary used her leverage for super delegates . Otherwise he would have won the WVA primary (red state) . And Republicans in my area said they would vote for him.
With all due respect, it's the Dems from wall street who don't want him. He has the votes and would win with landslide.
By the way, Bernie is no more liberal than FDR. He is proposing nothing new.
Any mental or physical or psychological examination would have to be for both candidates. I am convinced Trump would fail any standardized test for mental instability or senility.
Daniel; I practiced as a Registered Nurse with a graduate degree I Medical-Surgical Nursing for over 35 years and never heard the term "for longer" so I looked it up. It's a Yiddish term which could be similar to medical syndrome, frailty. After having worked in long term, intermediate, and retirement homes for over 20 years, my educated guess is that President Biden has become a frail elderly person, if Parkinson's has been ruled out. One of the characteristics of the frailty syndrome is inconsistent performance, whether he has the best medical care in the world or not. Therefore, I believe he should resign immediately and allow Harris to demonstrate that she is capable of continuing Biden's vision for the United States. Biden should state that he will campaign for Harris as his health permits. That is our best chance of beating Trump.
I have deep respect for your nursing experience, it gives you a better perspective than many journalists and pundits on our current debate about President Biden's suitability for running for president again. That being said, I have to disagree with you on him dropping his candidacy. President Biden has a deep well of experience and understanding of how to navigate our political system and has assistants, staffers and people doing the work of supporting and advising him. Far be it from me to know who will defeat *Rump, but I do know with all my heart that 45 must never again sit behind the Resolute Desk. We are in this together.
The NYT editorial board gave their opinion today that Trump should not be president no matter who the Democrats run. I read this in news other than the New York Times because I cancelled subscription due to their biased news reports that haven't scrutinized Trump's lies and lapses. Finally, crack in the MSM's absence of Trump criticism.
The NYT change in their view of *Rump's suitability to be president is a transparent and disingenuous attempt to stanch the heavy bleeding of subscribers like you and I leaving them.
I wonder if President Biden might want to take a hint from Jesus.
In Luke 9:1-6, Jesus is taking the necessary step of any leader, Messianic or otherwise.
He sends his followers out to carry on the good work.
It is never easy. The leader has done his best to inspire them by example and training. The followers are never comfortable. They are not sure they are good enough. They will grieve the passing of their good shepherd.
I agree. If Biden needs to undergo a test for senility so should Trump, by exactly the same teams, chosen by independent medical professionals. All test results should be published. I suspect neither individual would make the grade.
Both candidates should go through the same neurological/psychiatric tests administered by the same clinicians. Without the benefit of the results it is anyone's guess as to who is capable and who isn't.
Did you notice Daniel the comment to Putin. Biden said " I can't change his behavior". Has someone been reading the BFSkinner.org materials? Behaviors move along through biology evolution too ;)

Right, but my last name is Solomon. If Biden submits and Trump doesn't, biblical precedent will make him the subject of ridicule, his fatal flaw.

Susan:
Can we agree that even if Mr Biden resigns, he may still make himself available for consultation as Ms Harris may require?
That's what "elder statesmen" do!

Sorry, "forblonget" was altered by my spell correct thingy.

To quote Ray Charles, "Tell me what I say!"
As an octogenarian myself, the test is the nature and frequency of senior moments. How many are disqualifying?
Absolutely. Accrued wisdom from life experience will always lead to the ‘taking of a beat’ before answering any question. Especially stupid ones.
The reporter should too. He called George Clooney a legislator and the reporter wasn't old.

" Gerontophobia ' Okay, so.... Who created this word? Probably a young person.
